I'm all about organization and I decided my sons room needed some type of coat/backpack hangers so that we could get it a tiny bit more organized. I wanted something that was creative, unique, and boy. My husband used to be a diesel mechanic and is a definite Mr. Fix It. Tools are a staple at our house and they can be found everywhere.
I was browsing the web and came across something that triggered this idea. We have a plethora of wrenches and my husband willingly gave up a few of his cheap ones to create this fabulous board. I left the brainstorming to my husband, and he heated up the wrenches with a torch in order to shape them. Then we fastened them onto a painted board and ta da. Magic.
DISCLAIMER: My son is almost 10 and has his own opinion about what hangs on this board now, so this is an all natural picture with no staging.
Yep, that's a sentence I say multiple times a week. My amazing hubby listens patiently and helps my ideas come to life. We renovated an older home and recently sold it. Now we are onto a newer home with new projects. We have five kiddos, a dog and a cat, and a long list of waiting projects, so stay tuned!

Our Fabulous Baby Crib
One project that we took on several years ago but I still LOVE, was when we decided to build a crib for baby number 2. When we had our first child we were dirt poor (like most couples) and we were given a hand me down crib that did the job but wasn't beautiful. When we found out we were pregnant with number 2 we decided to build something that we could use for the rest of our children. I knew that I wanted something with wide slats, and I had a picture in my head of what I wanted. I described it to my husband who drew it up and made plans of the crib. We made sure to read up on specifications to make it completely safe for our baby, and then we started building. Ok, he started building and I helped where I could.
This pile of wood was about to become something fabulous.

Four babies later and it still looks fabulous. We get compliments on it all of the time. When we listed our house for sale this particular picture had several comments on it because everyone loved the crib.

Mud Room Storage
I have repeatedly fallen in love with mud room storage centers over the years, and I have exactly what I want in my head. Right now we are knee deep in so many projects including finishing our basement, that it just wasn't at the top of our list. I decided to do a few things in the mudroom that we can later incorporate into a bigger mudroom storage center. But for now we needed hooks, shoe storage, and a more functional space to keep out the clutter.
When we moved in the room had nothing in it. Nothing, nada, zip. No hooks, no storage, no nothing. It has linoleum sticky flooring squares and we plan to update that in the future as well. Here's our lovely before picture.

And after. There is no window in this room so it's a bit dark. I painted it a gray that I already had on hand.
This is a fabulous farmhouse table as we call it, and in our previous home I used it as kitchen storage. We didn't have space for it in this home so I took off the cupboard door that went on the bottom section, and ta da, shoe storage.
Here is my favorite blue pine boards, unprimed, painted, and finished. It's just a raw board that I installed some fancy hooks onto. Notice the small hook closest to the door. That is our key holder, it's a must in this house.
The kid storage is at kid height, and they each have a hook to use. I really push them to hang up their backpack and coat and it actually works quite well. They know exactly where I expect their stuff to go and it (usually) makes it there.
That adorable crate on top is a crate for all things random. I don't care what goes in the crate as long as it's not cluttering up the table.
There is also a metal crate on the side of the shelf that is kind of hard to see. That is a crate for random things as well. In the winter it's full of gloves, hates and scarves. In the summer it might hold swim goggles, lost flip flops, gardening gloves, and more.
I plan to build a fabulous mudroom center in the future but for now this works pefectly for us. It's cute, it's functional, and it was basically free except for the hooks I had to buy. Win win.

Pot Hanger
The pots and pans hang from S hooks for easy access. I love this pot hanger and I love that it's an old re-purposed fence.

Spring/Summer Wreath
I had every intention of having my laundry room done this past week, and I'm one step away from it. My husbands grandpa passed away five days shy of age 101, and about two days later my three year old broke out in Hand Foot and Mouth disease. That meant I was stuck home and couldn't travel for the funeral, but still didn't get a whole lot done because I was busy lysoling my house like a crazy lady. Instead of my laundry room all you get is my cheap spring wreath.
I was in need of a new spring/summerish wreath and I couldn't find anything that I loved for a reasonable price. I went to a vintage market and saw an adorable wreath, but wasn't willing to pay the $50 price tag. I came up with my own wreath that cost me approximately $7 dollars. All it included was a twig wreath from Walmart, and a bundle of magnolia flowers that was a whopping $3 for the bouquet. I cut off the stems and stuck them into my wreath in a somewhat organized fashion. I wrapped the short stem around the twigs so that it's somewhat secured. It took me three minutes and ta da! New wreath. It even matches my house which I am a bit OCD about. Win win.

Master Bedroom
This is the only unfortunate picture I have of the master bedroom before we moved in. The walls were white, the owner left some lovely curtains for us, and that's all the character we had in the room.
I painted the walls a really light gray color. I used Valspar paint from our local Ace. I hung our previous curtains up, they are my very favorite kind from Home Depot of all places. Our canvas picture hangs over our bed as a focal point, with my hubbys guitar on the wall. I like to keep decor really simple, especially in the master bedroom which is a calming relaxing place for us.
The bed my husband built us a few years ago and I LOVE it. That's saying something that in a few years I haven't re painted it or gotten rid of it and gotten a new one.
We have had that clock since the beginning of our marriage as well. The dresser was off the classfieds and painted in Repose Gray from Valspar. See that bucket on the dresser? Best thing EVER. Its my husbands junk bucket. I don't care whats in it as long as the junk isn't on the dresser.
Currently our nightstands don't match. I bought the yellow one at a barn sale and the brown one that's almost hidden was Travis' grandma's.
I really wanted to have the bathroom done by the time I posted the master bedroom but that aint happening this week. Because of the warm weather we have spent hours and hours in our yard this last week and my room reveal has to wait.
