Kitchen/Living Area

Well, after five months in this home we are moving. No I'm not joking. We finished everything and now we don't even get to enjoy the fabulousness. We applied for a job down closer to our families and didn't think we'd actually get it. But we did. Yay for new things, but I'm worried about transitioning my kids again. We JUST moved.

Here's a few professional pics of our living space.

Cabinet Paint

I painted the cabinet because I couldn't let it go. It looks so much better.

Bathroom Makeover

This is our bathroom when we bought the house. It had linoleum floor peeling up in the doorway, white walls, and a gold framed mirror. It was pretty bland.

I painted it a light grey, called Silver Thistle Down from Home Depot. I've had the shower curtain for a few years now.  This is the same flooring we have in our kitchen area, it's Restored Wood from Lifeproof Flooring. It hides EVERYTHING. It's LVP, Luxury Vinyl Planks, so it has no wood in it whatsoever. It's all plastic and therefore won't swell if water gets in. It's waterproof but we all know that that's not always reliable so I love that its actually plastic.

There was zero towel holder when we moved in, which was a problem on day one because there were wet towels laying around. I whipped up this trusty towel holder that cost me very little. The board is around $5 at Home Depot, it's the white pine. I don't stain it or finish it, or anything at all. It's a raw board. Then I measured out where to put my hooks that I bought on Amazon, and screwed them in. Ta da! I love the look of it, and it's way easier for my kids to put towels on hooks than on a rod.

This bathroom doesn't have a light so it was horribly hard to get a picture of this mirror because, well, I'm not a good enough photographer to know how to do that with the blaring light above. SO, this mirror had an adorable shape but it was gold. It didn't jive with my style so I took it outside and spray painted it a lovely shade of charcoal. It looks SO MUCH BETTER.

I have to post about this tooth brush holder too because it's changed my life. It is a wire basket so there is no way for mold to grow in a dark nasty container. It has four nice compartments for the kids toothbrushes and a place for the toothpaste. It was a win in this household.

Now I need to replace the countertops...

Kitty Door

I don't know about other people kids but my one year old eats kitty food any time she can get her hands on it. Gross. She also eats dog food but prefers the cat food. Obviously the water bowl is always a temptation as well, and while she hasn't discovered the litterbox, this isn't something I want her to discover. Enter the kitty door.
In our last home we added this feature when we remodeled our basement. My husband simply cut into the sheet rock and added an entrance that our cat could fit through. This way the kitty food, water, AND litterbox are not accessible to the kiddos and we can leave the laundry room door shut, but the cats still have access. Genius I tell you, genius.
When we moved, we had the food and water and litterbox in our upstairs half bath that is rarely used. It was a pain trying to keep the cats fed and the little ones out. It lasted while we finished the basement and I'm glad it's now done.
This is our new kitty door. It goes into our water heater closet where the cat necessities are. Away from our one year old, as well as our dog. It's clean, out of sight, and the animals have their own little peace and quiet. Plus I think it's genius.

Paper Garland- Girls Room

It took a ridiculous amount of time for me to post this garland because I had to clean the mirror before I could snap pictures. Yep, that's life.
I decided to whip up a paper garland for my daughters room and it was super easy. I found some scrapbook paper that I loved, and used a paper punch to cut out perfect circles. Then I proceeded to send them through my sewing machine one at a time, and within 10 minutes, ta da! I was done. So easy and such a great way to add color to any room. It's also a great way to decorate an awkward space, like above this mirror.
The wall color is a faint purple with an undertone of gray. It's called "In Bloom" from Joanna Gaines paint line at Ace. I never thought I'd allow purple onto my walls, but here I am. I kind of even like it.

Tiny Bathroom Makeover

Once again, this bathroom was orange when we bought the home. It was so dark, closed in, and not my taste at all. (This little bathroom is off of our laundry room, and it doesn't see a whole lot of use.) It is HARD to take pictures in such a small space. A simple coat of Alabaster white (matched at Home Depot), Storm Chaser blue from Joanna Gaines paint line for the cupboards, my famous easy go to shelving, and TA DA. It's like a breath of fresh air.

Decor on the shelf includes an old ammo box lid, a wire basket we got from Travis' 101 year old Grandpa when he passed away, a jar of marbles also from Grandpa, a lantern from Travis' Grandma's home after she passed, and sticks that were in my wedding bouquet. The decor holds many memories.

Eventually the counters will get replaced, but until then, they are still 90's blue.

Laundry Room Makeover

This was our laundry room when we bought the house.

It was a tangerine orange color, and while I love tangerines, it just wasn't the right shade for my walls. It's a pretty small laundry room and it needed a good ole face lift. I painted it over a month ago but I was waiting on my sweet hubby to have some time to help me finish odd's and ends. It's finally done.

Ta da! Look how much brighter and more open the space is.
I painted the cupboards the same color as my kitchen island, Storm Chaser from Joanna Gaines paint line at Ace. It really made a difference.

My laundry hanger is my favorite part. We had a piece of metal gate left over from my pot and pan hanger, and I knew just what I wanted to do with it. It's my easily accessible laundry rack for things that don't go in the dryer. (Why do I buy clothes that can't be dried?) I added cute wooden hangers, didn't paint the gate and left it in all it's rusty glory, and was so excited to see it hung.

I also removed the blinds that were on the window, and added some very simple curtains. In true lazy style, I didn't hem the curtains I just sewed the rod pocket and left the rest raw.

I added a simple wooden shelf above the sink for my cleaners, shout spot cleaner, dryer sheets, etc. I thought about putting my laundry detergent up there but I'm all about ease and functionality and I don't like reaching up to try to scoop out the detergent.

The room is so much brighter and way more eye catching. Next up, the bathroom off of the laundry room.
